29 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Naples Stormwater Project Compiled by Editorial Staff, WorldWide Drilling Resource® The City of Naples in Florida awarded directional drill services for their Naples Beach Restoration & Water Quality Improvement Project in 2020, with material ordered and received, and physical work to begin on or before September 1, 2022. When Hurricane Ian made landfall on September 28, 2022, massive destruction caused unforeseen delays. Pipeline construction finally began in January 2023. DBE installed two 30-inch fusible PVC discharge pipes into the Gulf of Mexico. The company directionally drilled and reamed both pilot holes from land, and used another rig located offshore to pull the pipe into position. The twin 1100-foot pipelines and new pump station with backup generator will pump treated stormwater 900 feet offshore at the seafloor. It’s part of a $35 million water management system designed to reduce street flooding, water pollution, and beach erosion, and will enable removal of most of the stormwater outfalls on the beaches.
