39 FEBRUARY 2023 WorldWide Drilling Resource® SkillsReady Training Program to Educate Future Energy Workers Adapted from Information by American Petroleum Institute (API) The new SkillsReady by API job-readiness training program was recently launched at San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas. Participants began the first session in a four-month curriculum designed to help create career pathways for diverse communities and job candidates, who otherwise might not have an opportunity to receive necessary training to join the natural gas and oil industry. The program provides qualified and accepted candidates free admission to the course, which gives students a broad foundation to join any of the industry’s segments - upstream, midstream, or downstream. Graduates completing the program will receive a certificate endorsing their knowledge of industry operations. SkillsReady by API held an orientation celebration for participants, their families, and representatives from API member companies at San Jacinto College’s LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy & Technology. The state-of-the-art facility offers top-tier courses and handson learning for students of the petrochemical, natural gas, and oil industry. This was the first of many opportunities program participants will have to meet with representatives fromAPI and member companies to discuss the industry and the opportunities it offers. Leading experts in energy operations will provide virtual and in-person lectures, offering students industry knowledge and skills needed for success. The curriculum includes an overview of the natural gas and oil supply chain, safety procedures and concepts, critical equipment utilized at facilities, and general operational processes applicable to all industry segments. The core focus of the program is to develop a strong and diverse workforce to represent America. API looks forward to celebrating and following the progress of the inaugural class to see how this group of problem-solvers can make an impact as the next generation of skilled workers, engineers, and scientists who will drive U.S. energy leadership and elevate communities. SkillsReady participants toured San Jacinto College’s state-of-the-art facilities. G&O
