39 NOVEMBER 2023 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Actions Speak Louder than Words by Tim Connor Do you know someone who: 2 gives up at the first obstacle? 2 plays the role of victim? 2 talks a good game, but never moves? 2 feels entitled to - whatever? 2 is always getting ready to get started? 2 is someday going to - do whatever? 2 expects - life, their career, success - to be easy, perfect, or fair? 2 is waiting for the perfect time or circumstances before taking action? There’s more, but I am confident someone has come to your mind already. Is it you? Be honest now, are you guilty of any of the above in any area of your life? If so, why? Life is not, nor ever will be, perfect. Most of us have to use what we have, do what we can, and start where we are. What is the point of waiting for ideal circumstances or timing? Life is not about making right decisions, but making the decisions we make turn out right. To those of you who have read any of my 80+ books, I’ll bet you have found typos or errors. Guess what? They are finished and generating income and hopefully helping people in spite of any errors. Sure, they could have been better if I had waited until: I knew more, had more experience, more time, or money. Waiting to write the perfect book is just as ludicrous as waiting for the perfect career, life, relationship, or business to happen according to our plans, hopes, dreams, and desires. Sooner or later, we have to act. Life passes one moment at a time while many people wait for the ideal circumstances. The Quakers have a wonderful saying: “Pray, but move your feet.” Another favorite: “Want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.” What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? What would you do if it didn’t matter if you failed? What would you do if you cared little about the opinions of others? Failure - what’s the big deal anyway? The fear of failure is for those people who want to live their life in such a way that never accomplishing much or contributing much is just fine. There is no perfect life, career, book, business, or relationship. These are just the way they are. To sit around waiting is to live life in neutral.
