888-465-1569 holeproducts.com Mary Harrington All Cape Well Drilling Mary Harrington and her husband Shaun established All Cape Well Drilling in Brewster, Massachusetts, in 1989. In addition to pump and well servicing, the company drills new and replacement wells. Drilling a freshwater well on Cape Cod requires years of local experience, which is where Mary shines having drilled in sand and saltwater on the Cape for more than 20 years. When asked what the best part of her job is, she said, “The customers - I am a people person and have met so many wonderful people. I also love working outside and since we are always traveling to new locations, I am never bored.” Mary does find it challenging to locate qualified help and hopes to get more young people interested in the drilling industry. She views her role in the industry as educating people about groundwater and encouraging young women to join the trade. In her spare time, she enjoys boating, watching boat racing, scuba diving, and pretty much anything to do with water. Mary and Shaun have been married for over 35 years and together have raised two daughters. Jenna Gates Gates Drilling & Service, Inc. Gates Drilling & Service in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, was founded in 1893, starting with Samual, Chester, Ivan, Shirley, and Robert Gates. Jenna and her brother Kyle are the fifth generation of well drilling professionals working at the family business. Jenna has grown up around drilling, and once she picked up on the trade, she really like it. “I mainly drill, but I also help with any service work that needs to be done as well. I am also a college student studying agriculture business and management to gain a better understanding of what steps I need to take over the business. Once I graduate, I would like to take over our family business and hopefully pass it down to my own kids one day,” she stated. Although she hasn’t been drilling very long, she picked up on it rather easily and realized last year just how much she enjoyed drilling. “I think the best part is I get to share a trade that has been in my family since 1893. I also get to take on a trade with my dad and learn from him! I think the hardest part of my job is all there is to learn, and no job is the same. All of us grew up playing in the water and have come to enjoy it as a career path. Drilling has not only brought a trade that we have a passion for into our family, it also reinforced the understanding that hard work pays off. Although it is not always easy, it is always worth it!” she stated. OCTOBER 2023 WorldWide Drilling Resource® 3
