38 DECEMBER 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Booth 521 New President for NGWA Adapted from Information by the National Ground Water Association The National Ground Water Association’s (NGWA’s) 2024 Groundwater Week is set to make history. Bringing a new perspective to the position of association president will be Eric Macias, chief operating officer of LORENTZ U.S. Corp in Slaton, Texas. When the president’s gavel is passed from current NGWA President David Traut to Macias, it will signify the first time a member from the Manufacturers Section will be president. “For my fellow board members from all sections to agree, have confidence in my leadership abilities, and to let me represent them and our industry is a privilege,” stated Macias, who will be NGWA’s 74th president. Macias intends to focus on three major priorities in 2025, including: l Completing the development of the NGWA Business PRO app which is being designed to provide water well contractors with a comprehensive business management tool. l Improving and building up the NGWA University. l Exploring and implementing a strategy to allow the groundwater industry to be recognized as a meaningful place to work and attract new talent. Macias said he is in the groundwater industry solely because of mentors who he worked with early in his career at a pump supplier. They saw potential and worked with him and his college schedule to teach him everything he would need to be successful in the business. He encourages others in the industry to actively recruit and mentor the next generation of groundwater professionals. “I really think back to the beginning and try to find young, smart, hardworking, and thirsty-for-knowledge people, to bring into our industry as was done for me,” he shared. “I’ve made it a point in our company to hire people who are not in our industry. Sure, this can be more challenging, but it’s worth the effort.” WTR
