22 JANUARY 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” Have you noticed everyone seems to be in a hurry for just about everything? I don’t care if it’s in line at Walmart, driving down a major highway, or ordering dinner at the local restaurant - not to mention the expectations for response to e-mails, telephone calls, and even texts. I am beeped at on average, seven times a day and I am going the speed limit. I have watched people complain in lines at fast food joints because the food didn’t come fast enough. So, I thought this month I would talk about what I refer to as the “Idiots Hurry Syndrome.” A few quickies: c I love it when people switch lines in a store to try to get ahead of me and then I still end up leaving before they do because all the people in front of them in the new line are even slower. c One of my favorites is when someone goes flying by me to get wherever they are going and before you know it, we are both at the same next traffic light waiting. And zoom, off they go again and, well, here we are again. It’s especially crazy when it happens a few times. c Recently, I was boarding a plane and the person behind me asked if they could cut in front of me because they were in a hurry - duh - I thought we all get to our destination at the same time. c Last week, I watched two people cut in front of the line going into the movies. I thought the movie started the same time for all of us. I’ll bet you could give me lots of examples, so I’ll share just one more I love: c I was attending a conference last year and as I was entering the room to find a seat, a couple pushed past me going into the room. I aked them why they were in such a hurry and they said they wanted to get better seats. Hello - I thought everyone in the room heard the same remarks and information. Let me summarize with a common bit of information the medical community is aware of. The biggest contributor to stress is being impatient, in a hurry, or rushing. So sooner or later we are all going to die - are you in a hurry to get there too? Someone once said that the shortest period of time in America is the time between when the light turns green and when you hear the first horn honk.” ~Jim Rohn “One of the great illusions of our time is that hurrying will buy us more time.” ~John Ortberg “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” ~Laozi Geothermal by: IGSHPA (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association) Town Hall with Steve Kavanaugh February 14 ~ ONLINE phone: 800-626-4747 www.igshpa.org Groundwater / Water Well by: AGWT (American Ground Water Trust) Well, Pump & Water Treatment Workshop February 5 ~ Lakewood, CA phone: 603-228-5444 www.agwt.org by: South Carolina Rural Water Assn Introduction to Water Distribution Systems February 8 ~ Newberry, SC phone: 803-667-9699 www.scrwa.org Irrigation by: Rain Bird Academy Training February 12-16 ~ Orlando, FL February 27-29 ~ Nashville, TN phone: 800-498-1942 E-mail: training@rainbird.com More education opportunities during events can be found by clicking here online at: worldwidedrillingresource.com Education Connection
