35 JULY 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® by Chris Hansen, submitted by Tim Rasmussen Last week, we went to the remote village of Buenos Aires, about two and a half miles off a main dirt road, which took us an hour to navigate (see picture). For many years, this village has been using rainwater or walking that distance to a well and hand pump we installed long ago. The newly elected mayor of this municipality told us one of his top priorities is to get water for these people and asked Water for Life (WFL) for help in doing so. WFL is willing to help, but the road is not passable for our drilling equipment. The mayor has said he will supply a tracked dozer for road improvements and to pull us up the steep grades. In relations with past mayors of this municipality, they have not been true to their word. However, we have heard good things about this man and are praying for the best. This village has been growing and now has 70 families. The coordinates, if you wanted to check it out on Google Earth, are 16.32636, -89.23165 (two and a half miles east of the dirt road and two and a half miles west of the Belize border). We are five weeks into our 15th trip to Guatemala together, including a couple of November jaunts. It’s something to consider when you first start a new venture, or in this case adventure, that it may well become a long-term commitment - which really reinforces the necessity to seek God’s guidance in all endeavors. Yesterday, we had the privilege of delivering an older ultrasound unit and some medical supplies to our friends, the Dinsmore clinic. It was accepted with great joy by Viktor, the clinic’s manager and nurse. Something we see as no big deal is a potentially lifesaving addition to the only medical facility in that rural area. As usual, our time here is not our own and can be hijacked by any number of crises, needs, or visitors at a moment’s notice. Most of the time, it is a pleasant encounter with folks we have come to know and love. Some arrive with gifts of handmade textiles, desserts, or fruit, others with problems and requests for help. Yesterday, we were delayed for a couple of hours so Jon could use his expertise to help solve a drilling crisis. Miriam and I were working on a messy decoupaging project, but were able to, with Flor’s help, provide lunch for all nine of us. Now, just the two of us are chillin’ at a lovely hacienda hotel, enjoying great food and service in a lovely setting. It’s a welcome and brief interlude before we head back this evening. We truly love what we do here, but a short break helps restore our spirits and energy. Thank-You Lord! And all of you for your prayers and love!!
