WorldWide Drilling Resource

47 JULY 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® In Memoriam Ray Allen “Slim” Dickey (1953~2024) The Utah Ground Water Association was saddened to inform of the passing of Ray Allen “Slim” Dickey on May 31, 2024. Born May 19, 1953, in American Fork, Utah, Slim was a three-pound premature baby born with a hole in his heart who grew into a mountain of a man. Having six siblings, he had many adventures as a child, especially with his sister Sherryl. Learning about working hard from a young age, he would carry this value his entire life. He was a “man’s” man who could work on and repair any vehicle or piece of equipment, which was always a blessing to family and friends. He was a drill operator by trade, working in the oil fields for many years and running his business, SlimTech, drilling water wells in Wyoming and Utah. A talented businessman, he invented a new type of drilling which made the work much more efficient and has been used all over the world. He trained and turned out many drill hands and workers; anyone who could cut it with Slim’s standards could make it anywhere. Slim was a great friend and a fun person. He had a talent with words and stories and could spin a yarn with the best of them. He loved a good joke and some of his best times were telling stories of crazy adventures with friends and family. He loved fishing, hunting, and camping - especially at LaBarge Creek and Alice Lake. Slim loved nothing more than to take his friends and family to a good fishing hole then show them up by catching the most fish. He also loved his dogs who were his best buddies. As a young man, Slim married Deena. From this union came Amy (Troy) and Justin (Amy). They later divorced and Slim met his wife of 33 years, Patti. He and Patti raised Laddie and Tina. Slim and Patti were partners in life and business until her passing in 2013. Slim met and married his wife Vickie in 2014, and was blessed to have Vickie’s love and care, particularly during his final days. Slim lived in many places during his life, eventually settling in Evanston, Wyoming, to live the rest of his life at his beloved log cabin home. He is survived by Vickie; his children; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters Connie (Larry) and Sherryl (Lynn); and brothers Del (Edie) and David (Linda). He leaves behind many treasured friends and extended family. Lest we forget . . . 2024 Booth 1021
