I am sure you had to deal with many during your career and personal life. I know I have had more than my share of idiots. Whether physicians, educators, the media, social services in my community, or the government, and so many others - the world is full of idiots. Every profession and industry has those who do stupid stuff. So I thought I would pick a few and see what I could find. Any following quotes are just anonymous remarks by no one famous - just general statements. Sports: Over the years, there have been many stupid sports folks and, yes, some bright ones too. Let’s look at the concept of sports around the world and not just its players: • Have you ever heard of Toe Wrestling or Ferret Legging? How about Cheese Rolling or Bog Snorkeling? These are just a few examples of the 32 dumbest sports ever created. • Invented in New Zealand in the early 1990s, Zorbing is one of those dumbest sports that might make you feel a little queasy. Imagine yourself inside a giant transparent plastic ball, rolling downhill at breakneck speeds - that’s Zorbing for you! • Originating in Australia in the 1980s, Dwarf Tossing is a controversial and insensitive “sport” in which participants throw a consenting little person, usually wearing a padded suit or harness, as far as they can. The person who throws the farthest wins. • In Indonesia, bird chirping competitions are a popular pastime. Enthusiasts gather to listen to their pet birds sing, with judges evaluating their melodies and awarding points based on volume, pitch, and other factors. While it might be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, the concept of competitive bird chirping still lands it among the dumbest sports. Hollywood: • “I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like eating fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.” ~Britney Spears • When asked what political party he’d support if he was old enough to vote, Justin Bieber responded: “I’m not sure about the parties. But whatever they have in Korea, that’s bad.” • Asked whether he supported gay marriage, Arnold Schwarzenegger replied, “No, I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.” I have more, so I’ll list them next month.
