I Wonder! As we approach spring around the country, I was wondering if idiots were always happy or only when the world conforms to their rules and expectations. So I did some research I thought I would share which might help you identify the idiots in your life. First, a definition of happiness from my perspective - not that you really care. “Happiness is not where you live, where you work, who you are with, what you own, or how many toys you have. Happiness is what you bring to all of these things.” These things create pleasure and there is a real difference between pleasure and happiness. Yes, being rich can make you happy, but if this is so, why are so many rich people unhappy? If lots of toys can make you happy, then why are so many people who have lots of toys miserable? Don’t believe me? Check the statistics. Okay, so what makes idiots happy? Here are a few to consider: • Being critical - of both them and others. Why this one? If no one is perfect, they don’t have the right to be happy. • Living beyond their means. Why? If they buy things they can’t afford, with money they don’t have, they can blame others for their lack and not take responsibility. • Addictions. I don’t care if it’s booze, drugs, sex, or food, addictions give us something or someone to blame for our life conditions, circumstances, or issues. • Living with regrets. Taking responsibility is a wise and mature trait, but idiots, if they do, can’t point the finger at anyone or the outside world. • Worriers. Worry is driven by insecurity, the need for control, impatience, and many other negative traits. So why do idiots worry? It’s simple, they can always have an excuse for everything they can’t take responsibility for, and this helps them keep their unrealistic happiness - or should I say unhappiness.? • Letting fear control their behaviors. We all have fears from time to time. It’s not always wise and is quite normal, but idiots? Their fear is routed in weakness, uncertainty, and lack of maturity. • Giving up on goals or dreams. Quitting is not always easy. Many of us who have given up in the past often regret the action, but idiots? No, they in general are constant quitters, or they don’t start things they know won’t work, or they will have to go off in the future. • Gossiping. Saying nasty things about others, spreading bad news or someone’s secrets, sometimes even just nodding or agreeing with another person or group about something about others can be gossip. Why does this trait bring idiots to perceive happiness? Simple - they are always better than everyone else. • Holding grudges. We all, sooner or later, have a grudge about something or someone, but all the time? Consistently? Everyone? Only idiots can find valid reasons to hold someone else, something else, or life in general for their circumstances, consequences, or life outcomes. • Blaming others. Idiots love to blame others. Why? Well for starters, they are never wrong - it’s always someone else or even life at fault. Yes, there are many other traits and circumstances which contribute to an idiot’s false happiness, but try confronting them with reality and now you are the idiot! If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the yard, a drink, or a nap, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.” ~Andy Rooney “Happiness depends upon ourselves. ~Aristotle
