WorldWide Drilling Resource

21 MAY 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® In Memoriam Jeffrey R. “Jeff” Wellen (1949~2024) With deep and profound sadness, Worthington Enterprises/Amtrol announced a true legend of the company and beloved colleague, Jeffrey R. “Jeff” Wellen passed away March 4, 2024, in Norwich, Connecticut. For over 50 years, Jeff dedicated himself to a successful career at Amtrol as a support technician. His expertise and commitment were evident in every aspect of his work, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Jeff started as a plumbing and heating trainee in the early 1960s and was part owner of a private plumbing and repair business in the early 1970s before starting his long and distinguished career with Amtrol. His commitment was unmatched, and it seems to run in the family. Jeff and his wife Liz together dedicated over 100 years of service in their careers with Amtrol. Throughout Jeff’s career, he held various roles in production supervision, engineering, quality, and associate training, as well as technical service. For the past 15 years, he served as a senior technical service representative where he focused on product training and education, teaching thousands of employees, professional contractors, wholesalers, engineers, inspectors, students, and sales representatives and was instrumental in expanding product education efforts. A true testament to Jeff’s character was his meaningful partnership with the Water Systems Council and Water Well Trust, serving as chairman of the tank committee and member of the technical committee which develops training and educational materials for professional members. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeff found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Working outside, going on hikes, and appreciating the beauty of wildlife around him were among his favorite pastimes. He also found peace in woodworking and enjoyed creating something with his own hands - supporting the work of the Trust, he would provide these handcrafted auction donations known as the “Wellen Originals.” Mentor, educator, and true friend to everyone, Jeff always had an amusing story to share, was beloved by all, and will truly be missed. Jeff is survived by his wife Elizabeth; children Jeffrey Jr. (Christina) and Julie (Sean); stepdaughter Kimberly; grandchildren Mackenzie, Hannah, Liam, Devin, and Harleigh; and siblings Dana, Pamela, and Kimberly. The management and staff of WWDR extend their condolences to Jeff’s family, friends, and former colleagues. Lest we forget . . .
