by Jon Hansen, submitted by Tim Rasmussen February 29, 2024: This past Monday, I was able to finish up a well started by Dave Rutledge as he was 95% done and his time was up here, so he headed home. The big thrill for me was driving the 30,000-pound drill rig back to our shop. The bridge going across the Machaquila River was not up to the weight, so I bypassed the bridge and drove through the river. Fortunately for me, the water level was low, and the bottom was rock solid. This village has about 40 homes and while we were working, different families would provide us with lunch (chicken soup and tortillas). Spoons were included as this is not always a given and can create much consideration when trying to get it into your mouth. Oh yeah, no napkins except your shirt sleeves. This coming week, Chris and I will be single parents/home alone again as our two young ladies (helpers) are leaving. Flor is taking university classes and has three days of testing in Guatemala City, and Millie is headed home to check on her parents and the 200 chickens she is raising. Our Ohio drilling volunteers, Speedy and Bucky will also be leaving us this coming week. March 3, 2024: We woke up at 4:45 a.m. and drove Flor and Millie to the bus station to go to Guatemala City (8 hours) and Coban (6 hours). They are planning on returning this coming weekend. Bucky and Speedy had a difficult time leaving this morning as one of the wheels locked up and they had to drive in reverse for half a mile to return to our shop.
