23 SEPTEMBER 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® A Well-Earned Reputation for Leadership Adapted from Information by Cotey Chemical Corporation Cotey Chemical Corporation was founded in 1949 in Lubbock, Texas, which remains its home to this day, by Bradford J. Cotey, Ph.D. to develop products for what was then the unique purpose of chemical stimulation of water wells. As a chemist working for Dow Chemical to stimulate oil wells to produce more, Brad became an entrepreneur and started his own company in the garage of his home, with a vision to address the challenges faced by the drilling industry. His expertise in chemistry and his understanding of the industry’s needs allowed him to develop specialized chemical products that enhanced well performance and longevity. The company quickly gained a reputation for its innovative solutions. Sadly, Brad passed away in 1965 suddenly from a heart attack. William D. Miller, Ph.D., a close friend of Cotey’s and the chairman of the Geosciences Department at Texas Tech University, took over as president and co-owner of the company alongside Cotey’s wife Mildred. Miller tragically passed away in a light aircraft crash in 1972, along with four other geologists, over the border of New Mexico and Arizona. After the crash, Kenneth James, director of sales at Cotey Chemical, took over as president and eventually full owner. His son-in-law, Kevin McGinnis, joined the company in 1993, and later became president and owner in 1995. Cotey Chemical offers solutions for the drilling industry, providing products for maintaining, de-veloping, and sterilizing various water wells. Their products include well rehabilitation, chlorination, preventative maintenance, and development solutions, such as dry acid and MUD-NOX® to remove obstruction. One of their latest products is WELL-CHLOR PLUS, which disinfects and sanitizes new or old wells and systems while controlling algae, fungi, and bacteria. Cotey Chemical’s commitment to marketing superior products and prioritizing customer satisfaction has enabled the company to develop a leadership position in the industry. The company’s focus on integrity and accountability has allowed it to build a loyal customer base, both nationally and internationally. Through its research and development efforts, Cotey Chemical has made significant progress toward achieving its motto of “Better Wells with Cotey Chemicals.” Mr. Brad J. Cotey, Founder, 1949. WTR
