When a guide dog is in a harness, it needs to remain focused on guiding its handler. Never pet a working dog since it may distract them. k Don’t give food to a working dog. Unexpected food can distract the dog and interfere with the owner’s efforts to maintain good behavior patterns. k Alway ask. Ask for permission before interacting with a guide dog, even when its out of its harness, so the handler can maintain control. k Keep your pet on a leash. When you see a guide dog working, make sure to keep your pet leashed and at a respectful distance so the guide dog can focus on its task.
