The successful delivery of so many wells demands a collaborative effort from thousands of professionals with varied backgrounds and skill sets, working together for years to ensure safe and responsible operations while maintaining excellence in engineering and administration. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team,” said Scott Buechler, Delaware Basin Production Manager. By drilling horizontally, they can tap into resources difficult to access with vertical wells. This approach also minimizes the surface footprint. Furthermore, horizontal drilling allows extended contact with the resource reservoir, boosting efficiencies, and resource recovery. Another technology utilized was cube drilling, an innovative method enabling the simultaneous drilling of multiple wells in a single land section, aiming to enhance efficiency and resource recovery by minimizing the time and cost of relocating rigs and equipment. ExxonMobil leveraged its capabilities, advanced technology, and continuous acreage in the Delaware Basin to successfully complete four-mile laterals in Poker Lake, New Mexico, which require fewer facilities and smaller surface footprints. Additionally, they utilize lowemission central vessel batteries and their first fully electrified compressor stations, helping to progress toward netzero emissions by 2030.
