37 OCTOBER 2025 WorldWide Drilling Resource® In Memoriam Craig Edward “Skid” Downey (1971~2025) The management and staff of WWDR were saddened to learn of the passing of Tom with Downey Drilling’s brother Craig Edward “Skid” Downey on August 16, 2025. He was born in 1971, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, formerly of Merna and most recently Omaha. Craig graduated from Creighton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and continued his education with the U.S. Air Force's Air University, the U.S. Army Intelligence Center, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, among others. His distinguished career included roles with the U.S. Forest Service as a Team Leader; the Civilian Expeditionary Workforce as an Environmental Program Manager; the Departments of the Army and Air Force as a Program Manager; and the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Weather Officer. Recognized for his excellence and dedication, Craig received numerous honors including the Superior Civilian Service Award, the NATO Non-Article 5 Medal for Service, the Joint Civilian Service Commendation and Achievement Awards, in addition to being named Outstanding Senior Civilian of the 3rd Quarter 2014. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Craig found joy and peace in the outdoors, especially hiking and exploring the landscapes of Utah, where he lived for eight years. Music was his lifelong passion. More than just a hobby, it was part of his identity. From an early age, he had a deep connection to sound and rhythm. He played guitar and loved to sing, using both to express himself and to bring joy to others. He was in multiple bands throughout high school, college, and into his adult life. Whether performing on stage or strumming at home, music remained a constant source of inspiration and connection in his life. Left to mourn Craig’s loss are his children Cade, Lydia, and Casey; his parents Richard and Patsy; his brothers Tom, Mark, Steve, Dave, Greg, Matt, and Tim; as well as other extended family. Lest we forget . . .
