WorldWide Drilling Resource

38 OCTOBER 2025 WorldWide Drilling Resource® A New Production Line in Finland Adapted from Information by Sandvik Sandvik is an innovative, global engineering powerhouse that delivers advanced solutions designed to boost productivity, profitability, and sustainability across the manufacturing, mining, and infrastructure sectors. Leading the charge in digital transformation, Sandvik is committed to refining its customers’ operational processes. Their top-tier portfolio encompasses machinery, tools, services and digital innovations for machining, mining, rock excavation, as well as processing. To bolster its surface drilling expertise, Sandvik is launching a new production line at its Tampere, Finland, facility. This initiative aligns with the company’s strategic emphasis on surface drilling and is expected to enhance production capacity by up to 30%, while also significantly reducing lead times for clients. Following the recent establishment of a specialized surface test area, this project marks one of the most pivotal advancements in surface drilling equipment in recent years. It involves a thorough redesign of the production space and workflows, modernization of resource and operational planning, as well as improvements in safety and ergonomics. The upgraded facility is projected to be finished by the end of 2025 and will result in the creation of around 100 new jobs. Alongside this production enhancement, Sandvik is advancing its Surface Test Pit initiative (see New Surface Test Mine for Future Drilling Innovations in the January 2024 issue of WWDR). Announced in 2023, this dedicated site will facilitate real-world testing, development, and customer demonstrations for surface boom and rotary drill rigs, with a particular focus on automated, electrified, and digital technologies. In addition to research and development, the test site will host customer events and training programs. The former quarry is being transformed according to its own drilling plan and will feature the construction of permanent office facilities and dedicated spaces for customer interaction. “Real-world testing is essential when developing new technologies,” Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining said. “Our Surface Test Pit helps shorten time to market and ensures we deliver safe, productive, and reliable equipment that meets our customers’ evolving needs.” MIN 2025 South Atlantic JUBILEE Dealmakers Standing by a new SEMCO pump hoist are John IV with SEMCO of Lamar, Colorado, and Casey with Haltiwanger Well Pump & Electrical Sales & Service of Silverstreet, South Carolina.
