Four Decades of Breaking New Ground Adapted from Information by Robit In July 1985, a new company named Robit was officially registered in Finland. Founded by brothers Vesa and Jorma Järvelä, the company aimed to create the finest button bit for rock drilling on the market. Over time, Robit expanded its reach internationally and continues to grow today, celebrating its 40th anniversary. From its inception, Robit focused on export markets, achieving rapid sales growth that fueled its expansion. By the 2010s, alongside its organic growth the company began pursuing new products and larger market shares through strategic acquisitions. A key aspect of Robit’s international success has been its close collaboration with local distributors, a strategy that sets it apart from global competitors. This approach was pioneered by Harri Sjöholm, who joined Robit in 1988 and remains its Vice Chairman of the Board and a major owner. Robit caters to a global clientele by providing drilling consumables for various applications, including underground and surface mining, construction, geotechnical projects, and well drilling. Its product offerings are categorized into three main groups: Top Hammer, Down-the-Hole, and Geotechnical. In 2011, Robit expanded their product offerings by acquiring South Korean firm Young Poong CND, known for its production of top hammer rods, shanks, and couplings. This acquisition allowed them to enhance their comprehensive top hammer portfolio. In the summer of 2016, Robit bolstered its international operations with the acquisitions of Drilling Tools Australia Pty Ltd and Bulroc UK Ltd. Additionally, in January 2017, the company acquired manufacturing assets and intellectual property rights from Halco International LLC and Halco America LLC, followed by a majority share purchase of Halco Brighouse Ltd in England a month later. These acquisitions significantly enhanced Robit’s down-the-hole business and complemented the earlier acquisitions made in Australia and England. Robit operates its own sales and service centers in seven countries and maintains an active dealership network that distributes its products to over 100 countries. The company’s manufacturing facilities are located in Finland, South Korea, and the UK. The values upheld by Robit shape its corporate culture and guide its decision-making process: j Prioritize Quick Response - Fast, responsive support is a cornerstone of their operations. j Embrace Change - Innovation and adaptability are vital for continuous improvement. j Maintain Respect - Valuing every stakeholder is essential to their business practices. Their commitment to improving drilling efficiency translates to faster operations, enhanced energy efficiency, and longer lasting products, ultimately reducing total drilling costs. Coupled with exceptional customer support, this commitment fosters sustainability and solidifies their brand promise of being a trusted partner for their customers in achieving the lowest total drilling costs.
