WorldWide Drilling Resource

44 SEPTEMBER 2025 WorldWide Drilling Resource® Geotechnical Surveys for Offshore Wind Projects Adapted from Information by Geoquip Marine Geoquip Marine (Geoquip), a prominent provider of geotechnical services within the global offshore energy industry, successfully conducted a preliminary geotechnical site investigation for two 4GW (gigawatt) offshore wind initiatives. This investigation will aid the developer in progressing to the next design phase for both sites, situated in the German section of the North Sea. As part of the contract, the company completed drilling 28 boreholes at project locations to assess the underwater terrain for turbine foundations. The team carried out detailed soil sampling and seismic site monitoring to establish the engineering parameters for each project at depths of about 130 feet. Utilizing the advanced Dina Polaris vessel, which is outfitted with cutting-edge geotechnical drilling, sampling, and testing tools, along with an offshore laboratory. Geoquip delivered precise, realtime seabed data while safely and efficiently identifying challenging site conditions. Germany has set ambitious targets for offshore wind capacity, aiming for at least 30GW to be installed by 2030, and these projects will play a crucial role in helping the country achieve its goals. The renewable energy potential from these initiatives is expected to support the integration of low-carbon hydrogen and biofuel production, contributing to broader decarbonization efforts in Germany. Thanks to its rigorous safety protocol, transparent reporting practices, and quick response time, the developers honored the company with a prestigious safety award for its exemplary work on the project. Fatih Topal, Project Manager at Geoquip Marine said, “Receiving this safety award is a testament to our commitment to delivering reliable data with safety at the heart of everything we do. It reflects the precision and transparency we bring to every stage of our work, especially as we identify and mitigate complex site and seabed conditions to support the safe development of critical wind projects. Safety and reliability aren’t just priorities for us, they’re the foundation of our approach, and we remain focused on setting the standard across the industry.” GEOTECH
