33 NOVEMBER 2026 WorldWide Drilling Resource® The Constellation Project Copper Mine Adapted from Information by New South Wales Government The Constellation Project in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, is a new critical minerals and metals project under the Minns Labor Government, with copper having been designated as one of the state’s five priority metals. The project was approved, making NSW a leading destination for critical minerals investment while boosting the supply of copper to support the state’s renewable energy transition. The copper mine is located near existing operations at the Tritton Copper Mine in Western NSW, and will provide a new source of high‑quality copper ore. The Minister for Natural Resources Courtney Houssos stated, “Copper will play a critical role in the global renewable energy transition. In 2024, around 30% of copper demand was for new energy technologies and electrification, and by 2030 this could be around 35%.” Due to its highly conductive and durable nature, it is used across a great number of consumer goods, construction, transportation, industry, and infrastructure. As part of the NSW Critical Minerals and High-Tech Metals Strategy, copper is an important component in solar panels, electric vehicles, data centers, and advanced electrification. Approval of the Constellation Project is part of the government’s commitment to growing and supporting the critical minerals and metals mining sector in NSW. The Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said, “This approval is another step forward for NSW’s clean energy transition. And expands the state’s role in global critical minerals supply chains. Once operational, the mine will become a crucial cog in the renewable energy supply chain, providing copper for the creation of solar panels and electric vehicles, among other products.” With construction of the mine expected to start soon, it is predicted this project will create 125 jobs, including 90 for the mine itself, with operations to start before the end of the year. When the operation hits its peak during its anticipated 16-year tenure, the number is expected to jump to 255 positions with 178 dedicated to the mine. Approval of the Constellation Project and its expected average production of just under 560,000 tons of copper per year will reinforce NSW’s role in supporting the global copper supply.
