WorldWide Drilling Resource®

32 OCTOBER 2026 WorldWide Drilling Resource® The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” The One I’m sure you have heard someone say: “I think she is the one.” “I’m pretty sure he is the one for me.” “I think this is the right job, career, school, etc. for me.” Give me a break. Ladies, there are over 171 million men living in the U.S., and just one of them is right for you? Gents, there are over 172 million women living in the U.S., and just one. . . ? Come on, get into reality! I’d like to spend a little time this month on waiting for Number One - whoever or whatever it might be for you or someone else. First, let’s define how idiots describe “The One.” The One is when a person, circumstance, situation, opportunity, etc. are made for you. They are a perfect match for your needs, expectations, goals, attitudes, and desires. Nothing is ever wrong about anything with them or it. Really??? Guess you just landed here from another planet. How about a real definition of mine? Idiots only see what they want to see when it comes to expectations, circumstances, people, or life in general. Got a flaw that they don’t like or accept - you won’t be The One no matter how smart, beautiful, wealthy, etc. So, if he or she is The One, if it (whatever) is the one they need, have an eye exam or get some new glasses. Relationships 101 says (just made this up) that a perfect relationship, job, vacation, car, house doesn’t exist. Sooner or later, you are going to have to accept some circumstances, traits, or habits you don’t like or may even hate. Don’t believe me? Well then, I guess you are still single or looking for the perfect career, job, or boss. Perfection or a perfect match is a “pie in the sky delusion” that if you hang on to too long, you will live with a lot of regret. Sure, there are good matches of people and circumstances, but sooner or later, the negative stuff will creep out into the world. So, do you want to find, meet, or be with or in “The One”? Here are three actions to consider: 1) Make two lists - one of all of the traits, behaviors, expectations, circumstances you love, and a list of all the ones you hate. 2) Make two lists - one of the traits, behaviors, expectations you require and must have, and also a list of the ones you will not accept. 3) Accept that if you adhere to these lists, you will spend the rest of your life eating all your meals alone.
