During the event, several critical mining and mining-related projects were announced. The Department of War will be investing more than $2 billion in critical mining and mining-related projects, including: • Standard Bauxite company to secure the supply chain of refractory-grade bauxite which is used in the manufacturing of high-temperature-resistant materials. • Niron Magnetics’ program to create the world’s first iron nitride permanent magnets which contain no rare earth elements, and are 100% domestic made, eliminating the need for foreignproduced rare earth magnets. • Expanding production of silicon carbon battery anodes and building a lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing site for the company Sila Nanotechnologies, to strengthen the supply chain of satellite operations, unmanned aerial systems (drones), and munitions. • A Sunrise Energy Metals project which involves developing a full scandium value chain, including the world’s first primary scandium mine, to help secure the supply chain of high-heat aluminum alloys which are used in fighter jets and spacecraft. The Department of War is also investing over $80 million in schools for workforce development programs and technology innovation hubs to train the next generation of geologists, metallurgists, and mining engineers. Additionally, the Export-Import Bank is investing $58 million for the following mining-based projects: • 5E Advanced Materials to develop a boron deposit, a key component of permanent magnets, semiconductors, and glass. • Westwater Resources to develop the Coosa Graphite Deposit to support domestic battery manufacturing. • Global Advanced Materials in Pennsylvania for tantalum and niobium to support electronic, magnet, and steel production. The Development Finance Corp is matching a 4.8 million investment into Harena Rare Earths to develop a rare earth mine in Madagascar to secure vital inputs for American manufacturing, such as magnet metal and rare earths. America’s 14 mining schools will see an investment of $100 million from the Department of Energy. These funds will be used to revitalize the next generation of workers and double the number of graduates with mining, minerals, and associated supply chain credentials. Critical materials build and power our modern world from cars to military weaponry and factory machinery to smartphones and computers. It is vital the country has sufficient and secure mining, processing, refining, manufacturing, and recycling to reduce reliance on foreign countries. These investments will help reverse critical supply chain vulnerabilities, bolster the country’s industrial resilience against geopolitical disruptions, and ensure the defense industrial base along with next-generation technologies will be powered by secure and domestically sourced components. This historic roundtable was the largest meeting of industry leaders and the President in over 120 years. Since January 2025, the Trump Administration has signed or approved 160 minerals deals totaling almost $40 billion, creating American jobs and securing our critical materials sectors. These actions will strengthen essential U.S. industries and the U.S. industrial base, ensuring domestic producers and workers are able to compete on a level playing field, protecting American jobs, and bolstering American national security.
