12 JULY 2024 WorldWide Drilling Resource® 2024 Booth 1608 The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” A few quick questions. Who do you think lives longer and healthier while they are here, pessimists or optimists? People who laugh and smile a lot, or people who hardly ever smile or laugh? And finally, people who are filled with gratitude and appreciation, or neither? I believe the answers should be obvious and they usually are to the positive folks, but just in case, here’s some numbers. The average life span of Americans today is 77.6 years. Guess what it is for the positive group? 86.8 years. Go figure. Which groups do you think are filled with the most idiots? I won’t answer this one. Hopefully you get it. So let me dig a bit into the weeds with some of the stupid stuff pessimists believe, act, or whatever. But first, you know I love quotes: Okay, a few common traits of pessimists or negative people: - Always expect the worst. - Find it hard to see the joy in life. - Difficulty with trusting relationships. - Have a tendency toward anxiety. - Tend to let simple things stress them out. - Spend a lot of time in denial. - Always have a plan B, C, & D. - Get sick more than the other group. - Always see the worst in everything and find it hard to see the best. - Most common personality traits are - blame, regret, fear, jealousy, anger, and denial - just to mention a few. Common consequences of pessimistic behavior are a shorter life, fewer friends, faster aging bodies, and an inability to take responsibility or accountability. I could go on and on with this topic, but I am sure the pessimists didn’t make it to the end of this article and the optimists, most of them knew the above either directly or indirectly from life’s lessons. Have a wonderful week, month, year, and life . . .
