WorldWide Drilling Resource

28 JANUARY 2025 WorldWide Drilling Resource® 2024 Summer-Fall Exploration and Development Activities Adapted from Information by PR Newswire Patriot Battery Metals Inc. provided an exploration and development update for its Shaakichiuwaanaan property located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec, Canada. The company announced a robust Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) of the CV5 Spodumene Pegmatite, which provided a compelling economic scenario for development. This work involves a comprehensive range of field and desktop programs such as drilling, engineering, metallurgy, channel sampling, geological mapping, environmental, and social engagement, all aimed at supporting the feasibility study and potential production by addressing critical path needs. The main goal of the drilling completed after the Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) is to upgrade suspected resources to indicated resources, which will result in a more robust mineral resource with a higher confidence level. The infill drill program targeted classified MRE blocks in the PEA plan and those identified through ongoing project optimization, completing approximately 154 holes at CV5, with all sample batches have been received at the laboratory. This geological model will underpin a classified block model for handoff to the company's independent engineering consultants and used for final design in the feasibility study mine plan. The geotechnical, hydrogeological, and geomechanical campaigns have all been designed to underpin a feasibility study for the CV5 Spodumene Pegmatite at the property. These holes cover areas designated for infrastructure development, including the process plant, mining camp, stockpiles, waste rock, tailing management facilities, and the planned open pit. The geotechnical campaign encompasses over 60 drill holes, with a significant number dedicated to hydrogeological data collection. Each hole provides insights into overburden profiles, bedrock contacts, and collects samples for granulometry and other analyses. This data will guide the development of infrastructure sites, determining factors like bearing capacity, foundation types, and construction conditions. The hydrogeological campaign’s objective is to assess groundwater flow in the project area through various tests, including pumping tests, piezometric surveys, slug tests, packer tests, and groundwater sampling. Monitoring wells were installed, completed, and tested in more than 35 holes. Packer testing was conducted in 12 holes to define the hydraulic conductivity of rock at depths ranging from 32 to 984 feet. Long-duration pumping tests were completed at several locations including a six-day pump test from a six-inch hole completed at CV5 to collect pit dewatering data. The results will be used to define the hydraulic properties of the rock, radius of influence, and source of water during the dewatering test. In 2023, a geomechanical campaign was launched with six initial holes, followed by eight additional holes all focused on CV5 in 2024. The drill holes were strategically oriented to gather comprehensive data on the structural and rock type contacts within the pegmatite foot and hanging wall, as well as the surrounding host rock units. The collected core samples underwent point load testing, and various samples were selected for further laboratory testing, including uniaxial compressive strength, triaxial, direct shear, and more. The resulting data will be used to establish rock mechanics domain parameters, crucial for the open-pit and underground mine design at CV5, in preparation for the forthcoming feasibility study. The most expansive exploration and development activity at the site to date occurred during the summer-fall fieldwork. As the activities conclude for the season, final data validations and integrations into the CV5 feasibility study will ensue. The summary reports and models status from the program will inform any necessary feasibility level work for the 2025 winter-spring program. Photos courtesy of CNW Group/ Patriot Battery Metals Inc.
